The Atlantic Blue Marlin is one of the most exciting game fish you will ever catch with aerial acrobatics that are unsurpassed. The Atlantic Blue Marlin is said to be the largest of all fish in the world's Oceans surpassing the Giant Bluefin Tuna and the Pacific Black Marlin as Japanese Longliners have reported weights near 2,000 lbs.

Blue Marlin are found and caught in the same ways as targeting Dolphin and Tuna and can be caught with live bait, dead bait trolling rigs, and most common, with lures. Look for color changes, weed lines, birds (especially Man O War), and temperature changes. You can find them feeding on schools of Tuna, Bonita, and Dolphin. When working a school of Dolphin, always keep a look out for "the Man" as he may be cruising underneath your boat looking for a snack.

In the last thirty years, Marlin tournaments along the USA's East Coast have created competition with a high degree of expertise owned by many teams as the prize money has risen to as high as $1 million for a single winning fish. Teams have taken on serious professional attitudes as the payoff these days can be so lucrative.

Tormenter lures have been at least partly responsible for two major tournament wins including the Nantucket Billfish Tournament in 2006 and the BIG ROCK Tournament in 2008. For this reason alone, you should be carrying these lures in your arsenal whether just fun fishing or looking for that big win.

Don't be fooled. Stocks of Atlantic Blue Marlin have decreased steadily over the last forty years as they have been tossed back into the sea DEAD after being caught as "by-catch" on longlines by Japanese fishermen. For more than twenty years, the Atlantic BLUEFIN TUNA was the only fish in the world excluded from the USA's 200 mile limit and our BOZOs in Washington allowed longlines to be set inside the Gulf of Mexico, within the 200 mile limit, targeting Bluefin Tuna, but killing: Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphon, and more (all thrown back dead).

Fortunately, someone finally got Washington to partially remove their heads from within their own rectums and the Bluefin Tuna was added to the species protected in the 200 mile limit (this was AFTER being on the "Endangered Species" list since sometime in the 70's.

Sorry, I got side tracked..... But, the Atlantic Blue Marlin is starting to make a bit of a comeback as the  relentless commercial fishing has been made aware to the many recreational anglers and since they have had a lobby in Washington to try to relieve pressure on the stocks.

When you catch a Blue Marlin, please try to release it without too much stress to the fish, and if is lethargic when it reaches the boat, drag it alongside the boat with its head under the water so you can force water through its gils to revive the fish. When its color returns and it starts to kick hard, that is the time to cut the leader and let it go back to its own business.

Have your camera ready before the fish gets to the boat so you can get your photos and let the fish go quickly!
